Weekend

This weekend was pretty fun. Mom & I ate breakfast at The Egg & I. It's a new place that opened and it was DELICIOUS. I think we're going to eat there once a month. I came home & took a nap. Then I helped my husband (a.k.a. Chef Chrissy as one of my friends nicknamed him) prepare hamburgers before we went to watch the Alabama game with some friends. They were the best hamburgers that I've ever had. My husband did this awesome Southwest hamburger that was so good. I'd buy that from a restaurant. I'm not giving away secrets but they were good. We had a great time watching the game with our friends. Alabama won - ROLL TIDE and he was nominated as "the burger chef for all social functions involving sporting events". That cracked me up.

Sunday, Chris worked so I went to a BBQ at a friends house. It was so much fun. I was there for about 4 1/2 hours. I ate too much and came home with a stomach ache. BUT, the good times & laughter was well worth it.

I got up this morning & started my home workout. We're not members of a gym anymore and I can do what I need to do without a gym. I thought Happy wasn't going to make it during the walk because he just stopped at one point & was panting. All I could do was say "Hap, if I can do it you can do it". Yes, while lame, I do talk to the dogs. Just an affirmation of things to come for myself.

Memories

I’m the kind of person that does what I want & says what I want. Yes, this can be good but it can be bad. I’m as stubborn as a mule and I hate to be told I’m stubborn. You can guarantee I’ll follow the statement “You’re so stubborn” with either “Your mom is stubborn” or “NO I AM NOT” Neither are mature, right? I’ve said and done things that I regret. I’ve done some things that were hurtful that I don’t regret. Some things, I just regret getting caught. Other things, I just have no explanations.

Anyway that is irrelevant as to where I’m going. As a kid I did what I wanted. Therefore, I got in trouble A LOT. I had (and still do) a smart mouth and I really dread when we have kids. I remember when my mom & I went to pick out shoes. For whatever reason, my mom gave me the choice of the red pair of blue pair. There was a brown pair sitting next to them. Guess what choice I said? Yep, brown. Well, I think I said to my mom “Read my lips: BROWN”. No I wasn’t being sassy or rude. The salesman even said “I don’t think that’s anyway to talk to your mother”. Calm down dude. I was quoting Miss Piggy. See, I quote movies, tv shows, songs whatever. I was, and still am, a huge huge huge Muppets fan. I remember singing and dancing when the intro song came on.

I made a point to stand up & jam out & my parents laughing. I have a few seasons on DVD and I still jam.

My dad & I were talking the other day about things I did as a kid, teenager & even as an adult. For whatever reason, whenever I wasn’t behaving as a kid, he would pick up the phone and say he was going to call the gypsies. I mean, I cried. I freaked out. That was the one thing, for a certain period of time that got me to behave. I was convinced that they would literally be on our doorsteps to take me away from my parents. Little did I know, it wasn’t real!! I wonder, when we have kids, will this work on them? Don’t think I won’t try it!

Whatever

I’ve also gotten criticism in many ways about what I do/don’t have or do/don’t type on Facebook (a.k.a. FB). I think it’s so absolutely ridiculous.

I got a phone call from a relative that cursed me out about something I typed - really it was maybe 2 sentences long. Yeah, I know. My perspective on that person has completely changed & I do not have intentions of being around them for a long time. I understand where they were coming from, but I don’t appreciate how they talked AT me about it. I was so caught off guard by this person that all I could do was say “Ok” and then when I hung up, well my husband heard an ear full. It wasn’t pretty.

I have a very sarcastic sense of humor. What I typed is something I would say to their face and actually have said it before. The problem is that sarcasm, when typed in black & white, is perceived as “defensive” or “rude”. It doesn’t translate how I intend. So I’m now being very careful about what I do. Isn’t that ridiculous? You bet.

On that same note, I have one person saying “Don’t talk about me on FB”. I have another person asking why they aren’t mentioned on FB. Whether it’s a picture, a comment or whatever. So I’ve decided to do whatever I want & not think about it. My page on FB is about me & my husband. Because my husband says “My FB page is my cell phone”, it’s mostly about me. I put up what I want. I can’t be concerned if I’m hurting others, offending them or whatever. If you don’t like it, then remove me as a friend so you don’t have to read it.

Not trying to be harsh, but well, all I can do now is respond like Will Ferrell in Step Brothers as Brennan or John C. Reilly as Dale do at the end of Dale singing in clip:

August

I haven’t updated in a while, but it’s been a rough month.

My dad was unexpectedly admitted into the hospital at the beginning of the month and had his gallbladder removed. He is slowly recovering and doing pretty well.

At that same time, my grandmother (really my step grandmother), Luddy, was admitted into the hospital. On August 10th, she passed away. I was in the hospital room and witnessed the last breath she took. It still is so fresh in my mind and I’m just still trying to process it. I never want to have to witness someone die. While she lived a vivacious life, her death was rather shocking even though she was in her 80s. My husband & I were looking at some pictures on our digital camera. We found a picture taken a month before at a family baby shower and it brought tears to my eyes. I told Chris that if anyone would’ve said (at that shower) that she wouldn’t be alive within a month or so, I wouldn’t have believed them. She wasn’t my biological grandmother, but she was all that I knew. Although, I have no doubt that my biological grandmother would’ve been a fabulous grandmother! Anyway, my brother & I were picky eaters so Luddy cooked those red hot dogs & made a weird green Jell-o salad concoction. My dad was probably the only person in the world that even tried it. The thing that’s so heart breaking is that my grandfather has had to bury 2 of his wives. I couldn’t even imagine what that’s like. But he’ll be ok. He’s a strong 93 year old man. He is so wonderful. Any humor that I have, derives from him. No doubt. He is so very special to me and always has been. He’s moving to a one bedroom unit in the assisted living facility. He’s also got a new crew of guys called The Four Horseman, that he eats dinner with. I’ll do my best to see/talk to him rather frequently and I should've done a better job of it with him and my other grandmother.

This is a picture of me and my grandparents at our wedding. Luddy was such a classy woman. I don't ever remember her dressing to anything less than "the nines".

It’s just been a very tough month. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been stressed. I’m a stress eater and well, the month of August put 5 lbs on the scale that I didn’t ask for. That’s ok, I’m back on track & will get to my goal. I’ve just decided to do it & not talk about it. One of my many mottos is “Actions speak louder than words”. So (insert crickets)

So I’m going to try to update more often. Especially with new shows and football season, well I’ll have lots to talk about. For shooooooo....
